Our tables at the City of STEM were very popular with the parents and their children!  The parents typically would say, "This is a floppy disk" and hold it up for the kids to see.  The children would typically say, "I'm not used to this controller," in reference to the Competition Pro-style joysticks.  Smiley

The SX-64 died after 3 hours of running, the Amiga 1200 died after 6 1/2 hours, and the Ultimate 64 lasted the entire event.  At the end, I had to tell the line of parents and children, "Sorry... sorry."  Note to self -- always bring back-up computers to a public event!

Happy Easter, FCUG members and guests!
The Fresno Commodore User Group has its next meeting from 11 a.m. to 1:30+ p.m., Sunday,  April 10, at

  Panera Bread Restaurant

  Fresno, CA 93711

During our discussion time, we?ll talk about the Southern California Commodore & Amiga Network?s Commodore/Amiga exhibit at last Saturday?s City of STEM festival?. photos and video included.  Of course, we?ll also talk about the April 22-24 Vintage Computer Festival East and the June 24-25 Commodore Los Angeles Super Show (hey, more prizes being listed for CLASS!).
In the hardware/software part of the meeting, we will run at a few of the 500+ C128 80-column text adventures made available from Thanatos!  (How many can we go through?!)  Then we will run some of the latest VIC-20 games from the SD2IEC.  The Muppet Learning Keys tablet returns, this time with instructions so we can go through the various sections of its C64 software.  Finally, we?ll round off the meeting with viewing more C64 nuvies that were recently downloaded.

Hi, C= and Ami comrades,
Just a few days to go!  The City of STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) festival is this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Columbia Memorial Space Center, 12400 Columbia Way in Downey.  (The event is along Congressman Steve Horn Way.)  Up to 10,000 attendees are expected!  https://cityofstem.org
To be exact, the tables for the Southern California Commodore & Amiga Network are at booth #71 in the northwest corner of the grounds, just south of the food trucks for the exhibitors.  Unload time is set for 7 a.m., and everything must be ready to go by 9:45.
Because of a short 15-minute unload time, I might be showing just one Commodore system (an Ultimate 64) and one Amiga system (A1200 ?060 instead of the two-monitored Amiga 500/Vampire 500) on the 2 provided tables.  (A SX-64 without an external monitor would quick and easy to set up, if I decide on a third system.)

Subject:           Possible partnerships for City of STEM

Hello everyone!  On the City of STEM registration there was a question about possibly partnering up with another booth and all of you indicated that you would be interested.  This is my informal way of introducing all of you to see if there is anyone here you want to connect with.  There are still 2 weeks left to register so there may be more coming.  Having a partner is totally optional but we do like to bring our STEM community together.  Some reasons for forming a partnership could be simply to cover each other during lunch breaks or it could be to collaborate for a booth activity.  For example, I looked on Adesso's website and saw that you have technology products ... is there some way you could demonstrate the technology if you partner up with one of the robotics organizations?  Just throwing that out there ... I don't know if it's feasible.

The info below is from the registration form and I included what you said you would be doing at your booths.  I know some of you didn't have a firm plan yet which is totally okay.

Please feel free to talk amongst yourselves.  Let me know if I can help with anything.  If anyone does decide to partner up, let me know so I can place your booths next to each other.

The a.c. is fully working in the Chevy pick-up now, and I've been driving around in cooler comfort during this warm month (February!) in California.  However, when the mechanics took the dash apart, I told them to get all the instrument cluster light bulbs replaced.  They did that, but at least 2 bulbs are still not lighting up.  It could be the old printed circuit board and/or bulb holders have corroded.  I've ordered a new board and 3 bulb holders from LMCTrucks.com.  When the parts arrive, I'll bring the truck back to the mechanics for them to take the cluster out and replace the old with the new.

           Still not right,

We have a lot on our agenda this month. In hardware, we try out at the new Unijoysticle 2+, a bluetooth adapter for bluetooth controllers (joysticks, gamepads, etc.), for the C64 and the classic Amiga. https://retro.moe/unijoysticle2
Then, courtesy of Amigastore.eu, we look at the external Gotek drive for classic Amigas; Bruce N. may bring his A2000 so we can try out the Gotek on that. If the A2000 isn't present, we?ll see if it'll work on the A500 with Vampire 500 v2. For the C64, we have the classic Muppet Learning Keys -- a giant touchpad -- obtained from Wayne and Sonia Aller who had a private school with C64's and VIC-20's back in 1984.
In software, we have Attack of the PETSCII Robots for the C128, this time with a Super Nintendo controller for the adapter that came with the boxed game. Of course, the Ultimate 64 will be there with plenty of new software releases collected in January and February.
Discussion centers around the June 25-26 Commodore Los Angeles Super Show in Burbank and a possible exhibit at the April 2 City of STEM which will be at the Columbia Space Center, in Downey, California, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.. https://cityofstem.org

Last week Street Rods Plus was working on installing the a.c. plus other new parts I provided -- oil gauge, dash pad, dash pad bezel, and gear shift indicator.  That and replacement of all the bulbs behind the instrument cluster.  It was a good thing I had regularly visited, because Tim the mechanic needed guidance.  The Vintage Air vents were smaller than the original openings in the dash pad and bezel.  I told him that the vents could be adapted with some sheet aluminum provided in the Vintage Air package.  One vent could not be adapted (it was square but the opening in the dash was not square), and so, I ordered a new lower left a.c. vent from LMC Trucks, to be delivered directly to Street Rods Plus.
A few days later I visited again, and most of the a.c. was in and working!  The dash pad and bezel had been assembled with the adapted vents; it looked beautiful!  All it needed was to be installed.  All dirt and grit that sat under the old, broken dash pad had been cleaned out.  New defroster sealing gaskets that went between the metal dash and the dash pad had been glued down.  No air leaks on the defroster anymore.  The new a.c./heater/defroster control panel had been installed in the dash.  The new HVAC unit sat under the dash, bolted against the firewall.  The a.c. had all hoses plumbed and tied down under the hood.  The modern Sanden a.c. compressor sat on the driver's side of the engine, looking shiny.  I took several photos and may post them here eventually.

           Ready by this mid-week,
